Milford Custom Groundwater Flow Simulator

Milford Custom Groundwater Model by enVision

Envision Custom Models - Milford Springs Custom Groundwater Simulator
Designed for the Milford Water Authority Source Water Protection Program. The Simulator was designed to illustrate the geology and groundwater flow pattern in the area of the Milford Springs. A standard enVision groundwater simulator case was modified to represent a simplified geologic cross-section that included a perched creek, buried stream channel deposits, intermittent confining sediments and separate bedrock aquifer. The perched creek loses water to the aquifer and supplements the flow to the Springs. We converted the standard "Lake" into the Sawkill Creek and used a submersible pump and valve to direct water from the back simulator reservoir into the Creek bed. Creek flow level is controlled by the vavle. As shown in the photos, the water drains out of the Creek bed through the finer layered material into the buried stream channel and then moves horizontally and then vertically to the Springs discharge point (red dye injected below Creek bed). At times of higher flow in the Creek, water also moves horizontally through the finer layered material to a smaller springs/seeps that exist during wet weather above the Milford Springs (blue dye pattern to left). A custom video and manual on operations of the custom Simulator were included in the project.

Envision has the capability of producing groundwater models that represent your local geology or groundwater flow characteristics.  Custom models typically cost over $1000.00 to produce, but can be an excellent education tool for local groups.  To manufacturer custom models, the buyer will need to provide information to Envision, including a cross-sectional diagram of the local geology and hydrogeologic flow patterns.  Our designer will work with the buyer to produce a model that realistically represents the requested geographic location or geologic setting.

If you would like additional information on custom models, contact our distributor at kjordan@afterhoursimages.com.  Please, include the following e-mail title "Custom Model Information Request" and include your contact information.  Also, be sure to include reference to the geographic area or geologic setting that the custom model will represent.  (e.g. Northeast New Hampshire or glacial valley fill aquifer underlined by bedrock)

Current and Past Projects include:

    - abandoned oil/gas wells with decaying casing causing leakage of brine water into fresh water supplies
    - groundwater divide model
    - oversized museum models - click here to see an example
    - minor customization of E3000 and E2000 models to simulate local conditions
